Mounting Kit

The most common failure is the breaking of the column  or the base. These two parts when put together are referred to by the manufacturer as the Post.

The Post is bolted to a ground  Mounting kit with 4 metric bolts. The bolts have plastic decorative caps that must be popped off to access the bolt head. A 14mm metric wrench is used on these bolt heads. (A 9/16″ US size wrench may work and is slightly larger.)

If the mounting kit has become loose in the soil, the ground around the mailbox may need to be pushed back in place and compacted. Ground mount installation sheet.

Fasteners in Ground Mount Plate

The top plate of the mounting kit has 4 female fasteners pressed into it to receive the 4 bolts that hold the post base down. These bolts may be difficult to remove due to corrosion.  If the bolt and faster are seized, the fasteners may then turn in the top plate. At this point the fasteners must be held with a tool (vise grip pliers) to allow the bolt to be removed. Liberal amounts of penetrating oil or wd-40 applied to the bolts can also help loosen the bolts. When reassembling the Post to the ground mount, it is advisable to use a anti-seize lubricant on the bolts threads to allow for future disassembly.
